NFRC are the UK’s largest and longest-established roofing trade association. Members are vetted on technical competence, health and safety, insurance and financial standing before being admitted, and must continue to meet the NFRC Code of Practice, with their work subject to ongoing inspection.

NFRC Competent Person Scheme – Building Regulations Self-Certification
Our NFRC membership sits alongside – but is separate from – our registration under the NFRC Competent Person Scheme, which is what allows us to self-certify your roofing work for Building Regulations compliance.
Why use an NFRC Competent Person Scheme Registered Contractor?
When it comes to refurbishing your roof, you want to be sure that the company carrying out the work will not only do a good job but also that your legal obligations are met. By using Benjamin James Roofing Limited, an NFRC Competent Person Scheme (CPS) Registered Contractor, you can rest assured that we are continuously audited against a robust set of criteria including, a financial check, office audit, and site inspection prior to being recognised as an NFRC CPS contractor.
Our membership of the NFRC Competent Person Scheme shows we take seriously our commitment to our customers in providing quality work and peace of mind.
Additionally, our customers:

What requirements do NFRC CPS contractors have to achieve?
As a registered NFRC CPS contractor, Benjamin James Roofing Limited have successfully completed and passed:
• a financial check.
• a desktop audit, ensuring that all relevant documentation is in place to provide a ten-year workmanship guarantee, we offer a sales contract with a 14-day cooling-off period, and we have the minimum insurance cover in place.
• an office audit performed by an NFRC CPS inspector.
• a rigorous site inspection, ensuring they comply with the relevant British Standards, Health & Safety requirements, and Building Regulations.
Whilst we remain part of the NFRC CPS scheme, we are also audited at least annually. This ensures that we remain compliant with all standards and regulations.
Can NFRC CPS contractors self-certify work?
Benjamin James Roofing Limited as an NFRC CPS contractor has the unique ability to self-certify that the work we complete complies with the relevant Building Regulations in England and Wales. If you are replacing 50 per cent or more of your roof, you are legally obliged to upgrade the insulation and obtain a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC).
Failure to comply with the Building Regulations could result in you receiving an enforcement notice from Building Control, requiring the alteration or removal of your roof at your own cost. Without a valid BRCC you may also encounter problems when it comes to selling your property.
Using a contractor with recognition via the NFRC CPS scheme means that once the work has been completed and signed off, the homeowner will receive a BRCC plus an Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG). More importantly, Building Control will automatically be notified that the works have taken place, fulfilling your legal obligation.
With every domestic notification, a ten-year IBG is included to reinforce our workmanship guarantee. In the unlikely event that the roof fails, and we cease to trade, the IBG will come into effect. As a UKAS Accredited Body, NFRC CPS also has a robust complaints process in place.
What should I do before selecting a contractor?
Before selecting a contractor, ensure their sales contract provides written confirmation that all work performed will be in accordance with the NFRC CPS scheme requirements:
• The sales contract provides you with a 14-day cooling off period.
• The sales contract confirms a 10-year workmanship guarantee.
• Where 50 per cent or more of the roof is being replaced, the insulation will be upgraded with the work registered through the NFRC Competent Person Scheme so that a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC) can be issued, together with a ten-year Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG)*

Replaced the entire roof on our house.
Having used Ben on smaller jobs in the past we were very confident he was the man to take on the much larger job of sympathetically replacing our roof in keeping with the age of our house (several centuries old). Despite many tricky sections where different elevations met, plus two flat roofs, dormer windows and a balcony to contend with, Ben and his team did a brilliant job. Upgraded to a modern rubber roof system with purpose designed edging and trims; ventilation was incorporated on Ben and Dave’s advice. The finished job looks terrific, and so much better than before.
